equipment you will need
  • 4-6 large bottles, rings, caps and several teats. Teats are either made from latex (brown) or silicone (clear) and either is fine. Choose any bottle or teat you like, as none is better than another. Teats are graded according to the age of the baby, but this is not based on anything scientific. Try teats with bigger or smaller holes until you find the one that you and your baby are happy with.
  • A bottle brush to clean the bottles and teats.
  • Sterilising equipment. Until your baby is six months old, her immune system isn’t strong enough to fight off some infections, so disinfecting her bottle equipment will reduce the chance of her getting sick. If you have trouble getting clean water or access to a refrigerator, keep sterilising even when your baby is older than six months.

Put lid and teat on the bottle. Tap bottle gently so powder falls down into the water. Shake bottle well to mix the powder and water.

Stand the bottle in a pot of heated water until the formula is just warm. Squeeze a drop of milk onto the inside of your wrist to test the temperature and to make sure the milk is flowing from the teat.

When going out, put the bottle containing the right amount of water in an insulated bag with a cool pack. Pack the measured amount of Bibere powder separately. Mix when baby needs a feed.

making the formula

Check instructions on the Bibere formula package for how much water to use. Put this amount of cooled, boiled water in a sterilised baby bottle.

Check instructions on the Bibere formula package for how many scoops of formula to use. Tap the scoop, and level it using the container leveler or a flat blade.

Preparing the bottles

Boil the water for five minutes and leave to cool. Make a few bottles so you don't run out.

Keep children away from boiling water. To avoid scalding yourself, let equipment cool in the pot until you can touch it.

Sterilise bottles and teats. Boil bottle, teat and ring in water for five minutes. Or, use a microwave steriliser following the directions. Store empty sterilised bottles in a sealed container in the fridge or in a pot with the lid on.

Wash baby bottles in hot, soapy water before every use. Rinse thoroughly and squirt water through the hole in the teat. Wipe down preparation area and wash your hands.
